Christian doctor wants drug advisor job back
A Christian doctor who was sacked from his job as a government drugs advisor is launching a legal bid to get his job back.
Hans-Christian Raabe was fired from the advisory panel in February because of papers he had written on homosexuality.
He had co-authored documents for a Christian health organisation which called homosexuality “destructive” and said it was associated with disease and drug use.
Another paper said that it was of “grave concern that there is a disproportionately greater number of homosexuals among paedophiles and an overlap between the gay movement and the movement to make paedophilia acceptable”.
Dr Raabe says he is a victim of liberal drug campaigners who dislike his strong views on the subject but the Home Office said he was fired because he failed to mention the controversial past work in interviews.
He is now asking the High Court to quash his dismissal and says he is not anti-gay.
He has begun a judicial review against Home Secretary Theresa May and is being represented by leading human rights lawyer James Dingemans QC, the Daily Mail reports.
After he was sacked, Dr Raabe accused the Home Office of hypocrisy, pointing out that a 1998 report by the department states: “Bradford et al (1988) suggested reasonably that approximately 20 to 33 per cent of child sexual abuse is homosexual in nature.”
